Q2) How long has it taken you to scan all that?
A)
At first, it was going to be just the tech manual, and maybe
the '91. So I started with a standard flatbed
scanner and hand
scanned That got hard very quickly, so I looked
around for a
scanner with an ADF (automatic doc feeder).
I FINALLY
found one. $500 bucks later, I STILL have to
baby almost
every page thru :(. So far I have scanned 4.5
GB's of images.
Thats about 4500 pages. According to calculations,
the CD
will have over 400mb's of data on it. Any other
ideas on
what to put on it? Total space on the CD is
~640mb.
This all has taken me about TWO weeks to do
(about 40 hours
of JUST SCANNING) I think I need another 20-30
hours to
finish.
*Update* The manual is done and took about 240 hours to
finish. The orginal manual stack is about 20"
high, and about
60 pounds!
Q3)
What format are these "manuals" going to be in? just pictures?
A)
No, they are in a format called "PDF". Free readers for many
platforms will be included on the CD such as
Windows/95/98/Nt (search capable)
Unix/Linux (most are search capable)
Apple (searchable)
OS/2 (why? I don't know, it was available :)
Adobe Systems makes this .pdf format, and the reader is called
the Acrobat Reader. All inital manual navigation
will be done
by clicking on NAVIGATE.PDF. This will only
work AFTER you
install Acrobat for your OS. If this is somehow
not the optimal
way for you to access the manuals, the directory
structure will
be intuitive enough to get to what you want quickly
and easily.
Q4)
What if I have a 2g?(or 1g)
A)
All the manuals are on ONE cd. 1g, 2g, and Galant plus the Tech.
Q5)
Can I search the manual with boolean operations?
YES! However you will have to fiddle with the options a bit to get
exactly what you want. Not too difficult.
