Please read this page and the rules before using the applet below. Thank you!  (AOL users, please read below)

Directions:

  1. NickName: Enter the NickName you would like to use while chatting. PLEASE keep this unique, do not enter #dsm with the default nick of "ATDSM". You will look like a dweeb if that happens too often :)
  2. Channel: This is already set up to go to the channel #dsm, or you can choose to go to our own "#atdsm" room
  3. Then Click "Connect Now!"
  4. You should automatically join #dsm. If something doesn't work, then maybe irc.dsm.org is down (quite possible) or an a/t dsm member has shown excessive misconduct and been banned or k-lined, and caused us all not to be able to join the channel.
  5. See below for some basic troubleshooting and IRC Commands.

Troubleshooting:

NOTE: If you are using AOL, as of this time, irc.dsm.org may NOT support AOL USERS. Sorry, I have no control over this.

If you don't see red/black applet above, you either do not support JAVA (get the latest browser of choice), have a firewall that doesn't let inbound applets to work, or you didn't click "YES/GRANT" when the software certificate window came up. If it's none of the above, you may have a slow connection, try waiting for 1-2 minutes before complaining.

If it crashes your browser, something is wrong with the JAVA part of it. I recommend using IE 4 or 5, with the latest "JAVA VM" installed from microsoft. A quick link to the correct site for IE4+ is http://www.microsoft.com/java/vm/dl_vm32.htm

Netscape 4.7 has been tested as well, and now works fine.

HELP! how do I...

The following commands are supported by the applet. All IRC commands are started with a  "/".
Some of the commands below are for the applet only, some are common IRC commands
that users may frequently use.

Command Description
/clear Clear the chat message screen.
/nick 'nick_name' Change your current nick name to a new 'nick_name'
/join '#new_channel_name' Leave your current channel and join a new channel.
Remember to supply "#" at the begining of your channel name.
/quit 'optional good bye message' Leave your current channel and disconnect from IRC network.
/msg 'nick' 'your message' Send a private message to a user with nick name 'nick'

Sounds are not supported on this page. I don't want to bog down anyone.

Have fun! If this page doesn't cut it for you, and you want to try your hand at a REAL IRC client, try downloading and installing Mirc, available here,

http://www.mirc.com/

Check irc.dsm.org for the latest server setup info and status.
