Notice the 2 oil holes in the lifter housing and the adjusting piston. When
reassembling make sure to put these holes 180° from each other. There is a open
ring around the inside of the lifter body that lets the oil flow to the
adjusting piston hole. Putting the oil holes inline can cause the lifter to
seize since the oil 180° from the oil hole never changes and can harden
from the heat and wear.

Here you can see the open ring around the inside of the lifter body for oil to
flow between the lifter body hole and the adjusting piston hole.

This is the Adjusting piston, notice the size of the top oil hole. This provides
lubrication for the rocker arm rollers against the cam. Many people have had
great success boring this hole out slightly to prevent sludge build up.
